Butterfly Village (the Village) is a six-week personal development workshop designed to help teen girls and young women (ages 12-18) comprehend, process, and manage the emotional component of being a child of an incarcerated parent. Through innovative activities and discussions, the Village empowers young women by building their self-esteem and offering them decision making tools that will enable them to make healthy choices in their lives despite their parental relationships.
In so doing, we place them on a trajectory for personal and professional success. We believe in the transformative power of breaking generational cycles, recognizing that the knowledge and leadership skills these “empowered” young women will gain in the Village will give them the capacity not only to change their own lives, but also the lives of others and their communities.
The Village offers institutions, organizations, and churches weekly workshops. The typical workshop is
3 hours with a 30 minute break.
